My knowledge and skills are grounded in diverse experiences around the world. I'm so grateful to the people and places who have welcomed me and helped me grow!
Skills
Curriculum Design & Evaluation
As a Climate Learning Intern for the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office, I interviewed over thirty professionals, identified nearly three hundred pieces of curriculum, and developed a central inventory and evaluation framework to better understand the landscape of climate change curriculum. I built off this analysis to develop an Environmental Literacy Model on climate justice for use by educators throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Teaching
As an Environmental Educator at NatureBridge's Golden Gate campus, I facilitated lessons emphasizing environmental stewardship, process-oriented instruction, and social-emotional learning. I successfully engaged elementary-aged campers in active learning about marine ecology, natural history, and outdoor skills. I also worked to manage conflict and cultivate community throughout my instruction.
Outdoor Leadership
As the Outdoor Education Coordinator at Dickinson, I managed the gear rental system, planned and led backpacking trips for students (including first-year orientation trips), and increased opportunities to engage in adventure sports like rock climbing. I am a strong believer in the importance of outdoor education as a community-building tool and mental health resource for all.
Writing & Storytelling
During my gap year I earned a Certificate of Critically Informed International Development through Omprakash. At the heart of my work for this program was a series of blog posts where I explored pedagogy, social justice, neocolonialism, and environmental justice through the insights and case studies I encountered living in Latin America for six months.
Community-Engaged Research
As a DANA Research Assistant I synthesized notes from 2020 Environmental Justice in Pennsylvania Virtual Symposium and researched concerns raised by community members to help create an ArcGIS StoryMap highlighting regional injustices and paths towards change. I also conducted independent research on effective ways to educate policymakers about environmental justice issues.
